Family Portrait Photography

There are many reasons why you would want a professional family photo shoot. Anniversaries, newborns, graduations or any particular event, sure. But more and more people are asking for a family portrait “just because”. Think about it: do you have good photos of you with your dogs? Your kids are growing up, do you have recent images of them? We don’t want to miss these moments, in a few months they’ll be completely different. Sure, your iPhone is more than capable of taking decent pictures of your family trip to central London, but wouldn’t it be better to have a real photographer, to get images that you can cherish for life?

When the time for the yearly family portrait photo session approaches, some people can feel a bit overwhelmed. Studio? Indoor? Outdoor? Will my kids behave? How about the pets?
Well, for every question there is an answer.
My advice when it comes to family photography is to consider the fact that everyone involved, especially the kids if you have any, will need to feel comfortable with the photographer and the surrounding situation. It’s impossible to get a toddler or a dog to pose, so the only way to go about it… is not to pose at all. Let’s play! Let’s have some fun! A playful interaction between the children and their parents is what creates the best shots. Bring in their toys, or the stuffed animals. Maybe ice-cream, or balloons. Throw the pets into the mix and you’re in for a real treat.

Of all presents you can give to your close relatives, a family photo album is every grandma’s favourite. More often than not, I help families put together albums that include photos from one of our recent shootings alongside other images taken with their phones – that I then edit and polish as much as possible.
