Photo shoots in Woolwich Arsenal:
5 of the best spots to take photos

Woolwich is a gorgeous place, full of gems and precious scorches. From cinematic views of the river and Canary Wharf, to the historic architecture of the Royal Arsenal. From the willow trees overlooking Lake St. Nicholas, to probably London’s most underrated viewpoint, Gallions Hill. The area offers some remarkable locations for a good photo shoot, whether you are planning to hire a photographer or just to have fun with your phone. Here’s a list with some of the best picks:

1. The Thames Path

It may sound obvious, but the whole path from the Thames Barrier to Abbey Wood is a treasure cove of locations. It’s perfect in the evening, when the sky turns red, or in the night, with the city lights reflecting on the river.

2. Dial Arch Square

This little square, with its gorgeous architecture and green spaces, is a perfect spot for some nature shots. Take off your shoes, lay on the grass, and see if you can get the sun to shine through the branches of the tree behind you. You’ll get the best snaps in the morning sun.

3. The cannons

They don’t call them “the gunners” for nothing. The symbol of Woolwich is very much present throughout the area, with many historic specimens accessible to the public. They are such an iconic, quintessential element of southeastern London, and there are so many ways you can take advantage of them for your photos.

4. The Royal Arsenal Riverside buildings

The architecture in this area is just unique. Old factories converted into houses, boulangeries, cafes and creative space. The old meets the new and the classic meets the modern, in perfect London style. The historic buildings are landmarks of the area, such as the Royal Brass Foundry (picture above) and the Guard’s House pub facade (below). Pro tip: if you have a detachable, remote-controlled flash light, put it behind the subject and point it at the ceiling:

5. The fountain in Maribor Park

Playing with the reflections on the water can be very rewarding, particularly at sunset. This newly-opened fountain and the river behind it are a truly impressive, cinematic background, perfect for couple portraits and inspirational shots. Photos taken here can easily be turned into some spectacular wall art.

Conclusions

I’m sure I’ve missed a lot of great spots, but these ones are all within a 5-minute-walk radius and most of them can be covered in a 1h or 2h session. The images in this post were taken in two separate moments, to allow for some outfit changes and for different light conditions. Overall, it took me about 2 hours to touch all of these locations. I hope this inspired you! Please let me know if you have any other suggestion!
